Life as a USA Jaguar 


Becoming a South Alabama Jaguar has been the most fun, hectic, wild, amazing thing I have ever decided to do in my life. Everyday, I am more in love with the campus I choose to call home 3 very short years ago. Last week in particular had so many firsts and I can not wait to share them with you!


Monday


Monday was the first day back home from attending a conference that I went to that was affiliated with Housing. In short, it is a yearly conference that the Residence Hall Association attends to learn new ways to better the lives of the students who live on campus. SAACURH RBC taught me so much and I am proud to work with Housing and I am able to go on trips like this one to learn more on how other schools run and how to make South the best we can be.



 

 

 Tuesday

Tuesday was spent doing homework and volunteering at USA Children's and Women's here in Mobile.  I love volunteering so my Tuesday mornings before class are spent there! This picture is of my roommate and I when I got home.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 Wednesday



Wednesdays are my busiest days. I have class, work, and meetings that I attend from the time I wake up to the time my head hits the pillow. I was able to snap this picture on my way to class.


 

 

Thursday 

I met my roommates family dog! I went over to pick up a few things and met her for the first time. Her name is Joplin.


 

 

 

 

 

 

Friday

Friday was spent preparing for USA Day, We all thought for sure it was going to rain. Since the forecast was for rain, I went to our local Walmart and bought a few things for the weather! Always be prepared for a quick rain shower! Spring showers bring May flowers!


 

 

 

 

 

Saturday, USA Day!

Saturday was the best day to date that I have had while at the University. I was able to help run the same event that hooked me on South! USA Day will forever be the best Day I have had here hands down. I made so many new friends and spoke to so many students who were genuinely excited to be there. I met so many people who got hooked just like I did at my first USA Day and I am truly thankful for the experience. And, thankfully it didn't rain!

Advice for Freshman Year Me.

I am currently a Junior here at South Alabama. You could say I'm a veteran of campus-life at this point. When I look back to scared freshman baby me, I see just how much I have grown. I have come a long way since then and I am super proud of it. I may have had a rough start, but boy did I learn a thing or two about adulting. The first piece of advice I would give myself is, Don't worry so much . Everything will work out in the end. You have to be willing to allow certain doors to close so others may open. If I wouldn't have done that then so many things in my life currently would have never happened. Seeing it now, if I would have been more open to change freshman year, so many more opportunities would have shown. Serving as a Jag

I have always had a passion for helping people around me. Whether it was in my home town, Kinston AL, during baseball/softball season at the concession stand or taking weekend trips to help local natural disaster devastation in Alabama and Florida. I have always been fueled to help others. That is why when I moved to Mobile I knew I wanted to find something down here to volunteer my time with. One day, I checked my Jag-mail to find a Daily Digest that had an AD for USA Children's and Women's looking for volunteers. While it is an extensive process that includes a background check and a few doctors appointments to make sure your shots are up to date, I knew this was the job for me.  I have been there for sometime now and would not trade it for a thing. If you are moving to Mobile and also want to give back to our wonderful community South has launched South Serves, an online database that includes numerous volunteer opportunities, all you have to do is pick your next adventure...

My favorite places on campus to study.

1. The Marx Library window. This window has seen my highs and lows. It has seen me jamming to my music and it has seen me cramming for finals. It is my favorite place because I am able to tune out the would and just look. Look at the trees, the pond, the people. Souths beauty is what drew me into campus. That is probably why it is my happy stop.  2.The Starbucks in the Marx Library Starbucks is my third home. I have had countless meetings and study dates in there. During rush hours it can get a little noisy, but once everyone has scattered to class then it becomes the perfect place to get stuff done! 3. The "Swamp" The "Swamp" is where our local wildlife live. I have spotted many cranes, turtles, and even beavers! I love to just hang out and do my readings over by the benches they have set up.   4.
